Philosophy of Richard Rorty Essay Example for Free

Theory of Richard Rorty Essay In his way of thinking as ‘edifying’ Rorty is at the middle of clarifying the calculated structure of the idea of theory previously, present just as what's to come. As indicated by him, his philosophical structure includes altering the works and other philosophical applied considerations. He imagines that, what different rationalists talk about way of thinking in the antiquated occasions, the cutting edge and what's to come are dishonorable and needs commonsense changes to sufficiently meet philosophical thinking.  â â â â â â â â â â However, in his philosophizing limit, he has met different restriction from the network. They term his way of thinking as unpalatable and without full investigation to the legitimate idea of philosophical contemplations. Somewhere else, they charge his philosophical idea as unlikely with commonsense idea, indistinct, unconvincing and with loaded with misappropriation. Nonetheless, a segment of the populace contends that such way of thinking is humanly freeing with significant picture of elation. As per his proposes, his way of thinking gives an origination of changing symbolism of the study of reasoning in the genuine perspective. Since his way of thinking fathoms challenge to crafted by incredible scholars, it is silly to sabotage at a short proximity of his action. Somewhere else, he made a quick reasonableness and furthermore formal reaction the social memoir of philosophical undertakings with the commonsense world andâ his arrangement of philosophizing which involve discovering, naming as well as making new speculative philosophical writing is maybe the most ideal approach to pick up and make philosophical information. (http://www.crvp.org/book/Series03/III-13/chapter_x.htm) Notwithstanding, his philosophical sense is illusionary and unintelligible to the authentic information search. His assault to the philosophical literary works depends on fraudulent setting which is just planned for carrying individual tribute to the wide society. In my own ability, I think Richard is out of philosophical faculties to enlighten the intelligent philosophical life stories which have done a great deal to shadow down worldwide obstinacy. His enlightening action is just made to withdraw the precision of philosophical lessons from its liberal coherency.â (http://www.crvp.org/book/Series03/III-13/chapter_x.htm) Reference Rorty: From Philosophy To Post-Philosophy. Species Native Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Species Native - Research Paper Example A grown-up green ocean turtle weighs more than 500 pounds. Like all other turtle species, green ocean turtles have a hard structure called shell, whose capacity is to give assurance to the turtle from predators. The piece of the shell that is on the dorsal (posterior is known as the carapace (Green Sea Turtles, n.d.). This part is heart molded, and is up to 5 feet. It is secured with huge scopes which are called scutes. The ventral piece of the shell that covers the gut is known as the plastron. The dorsal and ventral parts are associated with one another along the edges through hard-shelled plates which are known as horizontal scaffolds. The association between the carapace and plastron breaks at the openings for the head, tail and appendages. The distinction between green ocean turtles, land turtles and tortoises is that green ocean turtles can't withdraw their little heads into the shell for additional insurance. The shells of green ocean turtles are exceptionally light weight and are increasingly evolved when contrasted with shells of land turtles. The appendages appear flippers that assist them with swimming significant distances in less time, making them refined swimmers. Grown-up turtles are herbivorous in nature. This trademark makes them innocuous to different creatures living submerged with them like fish. They hold microorganisms in their guts, and rely upon them for absorption of plant food. This is the situation with grown-up turtles as it were. Youthful turtles are savage. They feed on jellyfish and other little spineless creatures. The dorsal surface of the shell or the carapace is dull earthy colored in shading yet it gets secured with patches of green growth on which fish takes care of. The specific life expectancy of green ocean turtles is as yet obscure. They become gradually. The development is delayed to the point that they take 10 to 50 years to have the option to turn out to be explicitly adult to duplicate (Bredeson, 2007). The normal time of development is 25 years. Because of this long life expectancy and time of development, green ocean turtles take such a large number of years to recoup from a huge populace

Cost Accounting Methods Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Cost Accounting Methods - Essay Example The point is consistently to get the edge on the opposition, excelling in the market regarding item costing, plan and bundling, quality and accessibility. Notwithstanding, improving the proficiency of labor and machine while decreasing expense and without yielding client esteem is one significant point in cost bookkeeping that makes audit of an organization's budgetary profile as sensitive and pugnacious between divisions as could be. Authentic Cost Accounting is the customary cost bookkeeping technique wherein the benefits are being esteemed at their unique cost less their gathered deterioration. In this the incomes, consumption and resource securing/aura are being recorded by their real worth or sum got and paid to finish the exchange. It designates an organization's fixed expense in a specific period to the expense of things delivered during that period and records their outcome as all out creation cost. Model: I bought a 100 sqm parcel for $5k per sqm in 1995, anyway its worth has acknowledged to $20k per sqm in 2006. The measure of the part or the book estimation of the advantage that will be recorded in the books is still in the estimation of $5k per sqm. Favorable circumstances: This will let us record the book an incentive concerning its authentic expense or real worth and in this way make our books predictable with respect to the task of qualities concerning our organization's benefits. The worth is solid and isn't inclination. Weaknesses: This will in general conceal the present market estimation of the property or resource as characterized. B. Verifiable expense doesn't record the honest evaluation of the property and consequently there is no acknowledgment of salary present from the genuine expense to the current market esteem distinction. Weaknesses: From the model over, a pay acknowledgment of $20k less $5k can be resolved if present market esteem is utilized. Notwithstanding, it is being denied in straightforwardness and in its structure. C. Chronicled cost guideline is just something contrary to the present cost bookkeeping rule. In authentic cost bookkeeping, the qualities were recorded and entered with regards to its incentive in history or the incentive at the hour of procurement and obtaining while in current cost bookkeeping, the estimation of the advantages were recorded concerning the time it was being reserved or the announcements were being produced and arranged. Burdens: This is essentially had to expand the huge effect in cost settings when an advantage is being procured years back and when the benefit is being esteemed with respect to its current market or assessed worth or its incentive at the hour of the readiness of the fiscal reports. Recorded expense basically doesn't perceive the current market estimation of the obtained resources. Estimation of benefit in 1995 is $5k per sqm. Estimation of advantage in 2006 is $20k per sqm. (present genuine market esteem) D. Thinking about the deterioration and the energy about a property, it disregards the way that the estimation of a property could ascend or go lower on its season of tasks. Majority Of People In America - Free Essay Example

Section 1 In the early 1730s, majority of people in America had very little or no means of reading books. Benjamin Franklin noticed the necessity to increase the reading of books and decided to open a public library. Benjamin reached out to some of his colleagues and they all agreed to bring forty shillings each for a start. They also agreed to increase the initial amount by 10 shillings each year for the next fifty years. This they concluded will provide and cater for the purchase of new books and also for the upkeep and maintenance of the public library. I drew up proposals, got them put into form by our great scrivener Brocken, and by the help of my friends in the Junto, procured fifty subscribers of forty shilling each to begin with, and ten shillings a year for fifty years, the term our company was to continue. (FRANKLIN, P.126). They started by gathering all their available books and stocking them all in one room they rented with equal access to all the members. That way anyone of the members could borrow any book he whishes to read back to his home and return it to the library after reading it. The process was very successful and that made them draw up an Article of agreement they agreed to all contribute some form of initial payment to enable them purchase more books. They also agreed to maintain a payment annually for maintenance and more purchases of books. The public library idea was very successful and embraced by all the people in community and even spread out to neighboring towns. With very little alternative options for entertainment, most of the people decided to indulge in reading of books. This eventually brought them to a level of enlightenment and intelligence from reading all the different variety of books. As a result, most of the people in a America, including the traders and even farmers be came well knowledgeable and educated. This of course also included Benjamin Franklin himself. Section 2 Benjamin Franklin had always wanted to live a very virtuous life and to as much good as possible. I tried always to avoid the wrong things. (FRANKLIN, P.146). As a result of this godly nature he sought, Benjamin made a collection of thirteen principles, which he tried to abide by on a daily basis. HE felt that this would help him to achieve his aim of living a just life. He carried with him a small book where he wrote down all or any of the things he did in a day that was contrary to his thirteen principles. His plan entailed him carrying out one of the virtues per day and he even further broke it down to per hour in a day. Thus for every hour he had a detail of what to do at that point. It was not easy for Franklin to keep to his virtues but with much persistence, he eventually succeeded. This article therefore cost me so much painful attention, and my faults in it vexes me so much that I was almost ready to give up the attempt and content myself with faulty character in that respect. (FRANKLIN, P.146). Prior to Franklin writing up his virtues, he was already unconsciously practicing that life. There was an instance where he threw his friend Collins out of the boat they were inside. This was not because he was trying to be wicked; on the contrary it was because he was trying to avoid an argument that was building up between them. With this action, he was able to avoid and prevent him losing his temper and probably doing something he will regret eventually. He also knew that Collins was a very good swimmer and could easily swim to the shore. In his autobiography, Franklin used a speckled axe is best to explain on how to maintain and cultivate good virtues and also develop good habits. He was certain in his opinion that instead of being bad in this world and hurting others, it is much better and beneficial to be of good virtue and moral. Section 3 It is very clear that Franklin was not a religious man. Despite the fact that his father was a clergy he had a Christian educational background, which did not make him religious in his daily practice. It is not to say that he did not believe in God not disrespect the church in his days. He just did not reconcile with their principles, doctrines and practices. And though some of the dogmas of that persuasion, such as the eternal decrees of God, election, reprobation, etc., appeared to me unintelligible, others doubtful. (FRANKLIN, P.126). Benjamin Franklin always tried to educate himself and learn new things whenever he had the opportunity to do so. And I early absented myself from public assemblies of the Sect, Sunday being my studying day. (FRANKLIN, P.126). Benjamin Franklin strongly believed that the way of showing his obedience to God was by assisting the less privileged in the society and by living a good life himself. He believed that every action had a consequential result at the end. He did not give any preferential treatment to any religion. He noted them as all the same and treated the members with mutual recognition. However, he had different degrees of respect. He had very little respect for the religions that encouraged or promoted division among the people.

Between the years of 1890-1920 close to two million African Americans traveled from the rural southern states to the northern cities. They traveled to these northern cities in hopes to find better opportunities for themselves as well as less discrimination. The Harlem Renaissance lasted from 1918-1935. The Harlem Renaissance was the name given to the cultural, social, and artistic explosion that took place in Harlem†¦show more content†¦The Jim Crow laws basically were a way to still continue to control blacks in a way even though they could no longer be considered slaves. Aro und 175,000 African American moved to the Harlem section of Manhattan. Making the neighborhood the largest concentration of African American people in the world. In the north there were many industrial jobs and factory owners were looking all over for sources of cheap labor. However the North did not welcome the blacks with open arms. This caused African Americans in the Harlem area to set a goal for themselves to become economically self-sufficient. Grapes Of Wrath And Of Mice And Men Character Stu Essay Example For Students

Grapes Of Wrath And Of Mice And Men: Character Stu Essay dyGrapes of Wrath and Of Mice and Men: Character StudyThe American Novelist, John Steinbeck was a powerful writer of dramaticstories about good versus bad. His own views on writing were that not onlyshould a writer make the story sound good but also the story written shouldteach a lesson. In fact, Steinbeck focused many of his novels, not on averageliterary themes rather he tended to relay messages about the many hard truths oflife in The United States. Upon winning the Nobel Peace Prize in 1962 theSwedish academy introduced him by saying He had no mind to be an unoffendingcomforter and entertainer. Instead, the topics he chose were serious anddenunciatory This serious focus was not exempt from his two works The Grapesof Wrath and Of Mice and Men. The Grapes of Wrath has been recognized bymany as the greatest novel in American History and it remains among thearchetypes of American culture. Although Of Mice and Men may not havereceived as much fanfare as the other it is still a great classic that wasrecently made into a motion picture. The focus of The Grapes of Wrath Is one family, the Joads, who hasbeen kicked off their Oklahoma farm and forced to move to California to look forwork. The story has historical significance as it is true that many familieswere forced, in the same way as the Joads, to leave their homes to look forwork during the depression. It is in this fact that one can see how Steinbecksintention in The grapes of Wrath was to depict the hardships people wentthrough during an actual event in American history. Perhaps the most solemnmessage in this novel was the poor treatment of the dispossessed families asthey reached California. In Of Mice and Men the reader is presented with astory that takes place in the same setting of The Grapes of Wrath This storydetails the hardships of two traveling companions while they are working at aranch in California. The common thread between these two novels is not necessarily the plotor the setting rather, it is the way in which Steinbeck relays his message. That is to say that, although both novels carry different story lines they bothportray hard truths about human suffering. Steinbeck reveals these truthsthrough his depiction of characters. In each story it seems that the characterswere crafted by Steinbeck in a bias manner so as to emphasize the overallmessage of the book. It is quite obvious that all of Steinbecks characters areeither good or bad. Steinbeck himself said as with all retold tales that arein peoples hearts there are only good and bad things and black and whitethings and no in-between anywhere In both novels the dispossessed charactersare good and well intentioned and the wealthy people are brutal and mean. Thisof course is done to make the situation seem all that more hard on thedispossessed characters. In The Grapes of Wrath the character of young Tom Joad is a primeexample of how bias Steinbecks portrayal was. With a quick glance at thehistory of Toms life one would say that he is not really the good guy. Yetafter reading The Grapes of Wrath the reader feels sorry for Tom and all ofhis faults are justified because of his situation. Likewise, the characters ofMa and the preacher, Jim Casey do not fit their traditional roles but, again, their actions are justified by Steinbeck. In the same way, the book Of Miceand Men portrays two men (Lennie and George) running from the law, looking forwork. Lennie is a mentally handicap person who brings most of the trouble tothe pair. Yet, despite all of his downsides the reader is made to feel sorryfor him. George is portrayed in a good way until the end of the book where hekills Lennie, and even then the reader feels for George because of thepredicament he is in. The rest of the characters in both novels are the richand powerful. In The grapes o f Wrath these rich people were not even givennames and Steinbecks dislike for them is obvious. This fact truly illustratesthe message he is trying to get across . In Of mice and Men the boss and hisson Curley are portrayed as the bad guys. .uca876ed5d53f9081d5adfd8068b3bf63 , .uca876ed5d53f9081d5adfd8068b3bf63 .postImageUrl , .uca876ed5d53f9081d5adfd8068b3bf63 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uca876ed5d53f9081d5adfd8068b3bf63 , .uca876ed5d53f9081d5adfd8068b3bf63:hover , .uca876ed5d53f9081d5adfd8068b3bf63:visited , .uca876ed5d53f9081d5adfd8068b3bf63:active { border:0!important; } .uca876ed5d53f9081d5adfd8068b3bf63 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uca876ed5d53f9081d5adfd8068b3bf63 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uca876ed5d53f9081d5adfd8068b3bf63:active , .uca876ed5d53f9081d5adfd8068b3bf63:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uca876ed5d53f9081d5adfd8068b3bf63 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uca876ed5d53f9081d5adfd8068b3bf63 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uca876ed5d53f9081d5adfd8068b3bf63 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uca876ed5d53f9081d5adfd8068b3bf63 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uca876ed5d53f9081d5adfd8068b3bf63:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uca876ed5d53f9081d5adfd8068b3bf63 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uca876ed5d53f9081d5adfd8068b3bf63 .uca876ed5d53f9081d5adfd8068b3bf63-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uca876ed5d53f9081d5adfd8068b3bf63:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Christianity s bias portrayals andillustrate how the technique he used was effective in getting his point across. Types of Thinking Styles

Thinking Styles: Optimistic, Pessimistic, and Emotional One of the key avenues of concern in critical and creative thinking is the recognition, acknowledgement, and appreciation of the influence of human factor to the thought process of each individual. A broad spectrum of factors, therefore, exists bearing a mark on the manner in which human beings think.Advertising We will write a custom assessment sample on Types of Thinking Styles specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Examples of such factors are culture, emotion, stress, ego, among others. The discipline of critical and creative thinking strives to direct the attention of each person on the invaluable role played by these factors in making of decisions. This paper analyses, and compares and contrasts optimistic thinking, pessimistic thinking, and emotional thinking. Optimistic thinking is the type of thinking in which a person chooses to align his/her thoughts on the positive side of life regardless of how gloomy things look. People who have optimistic thoughts normally reassure themselves that all is well in any condition they find themselves. This, of course, has its advantages and disadvantages. Pessimistic thinking is the opposite of optimistic thinking. It refers to a style of thinking in which an individual sees the negative side of situations. In good and bad situations, such a person will always have something to get him/her worried. This obviously has its advantages and disadvantages. One of the advantages is that such a person will be able to anticipate challenges, and plan on how to overcome them. Emotional thinking is the style of thinking that is driven by what a person feels at a particular point in time (Martin, 2010, p. 1). For instance, if a person is feeling depressed, this style of thinking will attract thoughts of hopelessness and other related thoughts. The three thinking styles are largely similar. One of their similarities is the fact that the three thinking styles stem from the disposition of the particular individual with whom they are associated. For instance, an emotional person is likely to have an emotional thinking style; a pessimistic person is likely to have a pessimistic thinking style while an optimistic person is likely to have an optimistic thinking style (Pritchett, 2007, p. 1). In addition to this, emotional and pessimistic thinking styles are likely to have more negative influences on an individual than the optimistic thinking style. This is because the thinking style of a person is a key determinant of the appropriateness and success of actions that he/she takes in order to make a situation better.Advertising Looking for assessment on psychology? A person with an emotional thinking style m ay for example over-celebrate an instance of success leading to future failures. It is however important to note that despite the fact that the optimistic thinking style is generally better as compared to the other two, it has its weaknesses. A person with an optimistic thinking style may take things for granted while assuming that all will be well. This may lead to a failure that will take him/her by surprise. After repeated failures, such a person may even develop a negative disposition like being emotional. This may make him/her an emotional thinker (Martin, 2010, p. 1). It is, therefore, important to note that dispositions are not static. Therefore, a person may have more than one of the three thinking styles during his/her lifetime. Reference List Martin, P. The Rise of Jacksonian Democra essays

The Rise of Jacksonian Democra essays Between the years of 1828 and 1840, American politics underwent rapid and drastic changes. Subsequent to the Era of Good Feelings, there were no two distinct political parties as the Federalist party had seen its demise and only the poorly defined Republican party remained. As Andrew Jackson began to take a leadership role in America, new styles of campaigning were taking hold, voter turnout was on the rise, and the newly formed Democratic party was seeing opposition in the conservative Whigs. Under his guidance in presidential office, the party took a firm stance in the American political atmosphere. Jackson was a very popular candidate in the 1824 election because of his wartime successes. He was running against John Quincy Adams, Henry Clay, and William H. Crawford. Though Jackson won the popular vote, he failed to take the electoral majority. Henry Clay was out of the running, and as Speaker of the House, he led the decision to appoint Adams over Jackson. Adams had obtained only a small percentage of the vote to begin with, and he was very unpopular in office. Critics accused him of striking a corrupt bargain with Clay to receive the appointment. Surprisingly, Adams did not make vacancies in the cabinet for his supporters. His presidency what a reasonably successful yet highly unpopular one. Jackson had begun campaigning for the 1828 election on February 9, 1825, the day his loss to Adams was announced. He utilized all the modern campaign tactics: banners, badges, parades, barbecues, free drinks, baby kissing, and the like. Mudslinging between the two candidates reached an all-time low with accusations of gambling, adultery, and even serving as a pimp. Jackson attempted to appeal to the demographic that primarily made up his constituency; he portrayed himself as a simple farming man raised in the west, when in fact, he was at the time a wealthy plantation owner born ...

To what extent and in what sense can we say that professional and Essay

To what extent and in what sense can we say that professional and managerial careers are gendered and radicalised - Essay Example This research will begin with the statement that professional and managerial personnel include workers who have attained a higher level of education; therefore, they are skilled employees who have relevant experience in their areas of study such as, managers and technicians. For a long time, such careers were male-dominated, but today, women are moving to the hitherto male-dominated professionals, for instance, pilots, drivers, technicians, lawyers, and medical personnel among others. As a result, women are breaking the glass ceiling by beating all odds in order to fit in the once male-dominated society. In the 60s, the role of female, especially in America was changing, with more women having paid jobs, and an increase in their dissatisfaction on gender disparities. However, according to the International labour office, Geneva, the employment situation for women to date continues to show signs of inequality in terms of pay, market participation, and unemployment rates compared to th at of men. In addition, there is a notable slow rate of progress in women’s managerial positions compared to men; as a result, majority of men continue to occupy the top jobs, leaving women in lower categories. Majority of women and men have specific qualities that make them suitable in certain positions in both professional and managerial careers. Therefore, equal distribution of labor and employment opportunities should be in existence. Moreover, women continue to face the glass ceiling, and even as managers, the chances of advancements are limited compared to those of men. Needless to say, women are sometimes forced to work harder in order to prove themselves compared to men (International labour office, Geneva, 2004, p.2). In addition, the professional and managerial careers require extended working hours, which influence chances of promotion; however, it is difficult for women to take up the long working hours, because they have other responsibilities as mothers and wive s. As a result, men stand at an advantage in these careers, leaving women to cater for family alone, which is very unfair, as women are denied the chances of career advancement. According to Watts (2009, p.41), rejecting long-working hours is a catalyst for job loss, or lack of promotion opportunities. Therefore, creating a work-family balance is important for both the employer and the employees; indeed, family should not be a cause of inequality for women. According to Acker (2008, p.443), all organizations have some aspects of inequalities, especially gender-wise; however, organizations vary in the degree of the presence and severity of disparities. A survey conducted by ILM, on 3,000 employees revealed that barriers exist for women who seek senior positions in organizations in the United Kingdom. As a result, managerial career aspirations for women continue to lag behind compared to those of men (The Guardian, 2011). The study also revealed that 24% of women below the age of 30ye ars start their own business compared to 20% of men who do the same (The Guardian, 2011). Therefore, this study reveals that there is a high level of unemployment for women compared to men, which results to business ownership. As mentioned earlier, women are commonly under-represented in the managerial and professional careers; for instance in 1994, SAS

In the methodology section, a detailed account is provided regarding the who... stage, why these proportions of ethnic representation enrolled, were there any inclusion criteria If some participants were removed, were there any exclusion criteria These criteria are very important for selecting the participants without any bias. In this section, the authors provided some of the findings of the current study: in strict sense these should go to the result section as these findings belong to the same study. Otherwise, in a very comprehensive way, the authors describe methodology. They focus all the outcome variables. Various emotional variables at different age levels have been described. In fact, they have tried their best to include all the important areas on which data were collected and analyses carried out. Literature review also moves the debate in the direction developing a well-built rationale for the research work which he / she wants to present. Researchers have addressed the issue of building a strong rationale very well. Next to rational, objectives of any research activity play an integral role. In fact, objectives are the sole reason for conducting any research work. At times objectives are developed by the researcher but their presentation may not be appropriate. A good objective should be a SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound) one (http://www.thepracticeofleadership.net/2006/03/11/setting-smart-objectives/). The authors of this article have not been able to describe the objectives properly and clearly. A single sentence with very hard and heavy language has been inserted in the section on introduction; rather it should have been presented visibly with simple and understandable language. Data management is a group of activities conducted right from the time of the data collection

Financial Markets Assignment Essay Example for Free

Financial Markets Assignment Essay Explain how interest rates decline following major Fed purchases of mortgage-backed securities. The FED implements quantitative easing by buying financial assets of longer maturity, e. g. , mortgage-backed securities, from commercial banks and other private institutions in order to inject a pre-determined quantity of money into the economy. This is a means of stimulating the economy and lowering longer-term interest rates further out on the yield curve; quantitative easing increases the excess reserves of the banks, and raises the prices of the financial assets bought, which lowers their yield. Graphically, this can be explained with the aid of Figure below. The supply of money is shifted from point 1 to the right (MS1 to MS2) and, all else equal, the new equilibrium point (with aggregate money demand curve) is at point 2, where the interest rate is lower. i i1 i2 AD1 MS1 MS2 Quantity of Money 2. What could be the implications of lower interest rates for households and businesses? By implanting the policy of purchasing mortgage-backed securities, the FED has set its sight on increasing consumption and investment, which will ultimately increase employment. As described in question one Bernanke’s policy decreased interest rates to new record lows, encouraging borrowing for both businesses and households. The ability to borrow money at more attractive rates stimulates investment in durable consumer goods, such as automobiles, and in operational necessities such as buildings and capital equipment for businesses. Indeed, after the implementation of the policy mortgage applications increased significantly. Because of low interest rates households and businesses as investors could shift their preference away from bonds and into stocks. According to frbsf. org, the increase in stock trading volume has the effect of raising the value of existing stock portfolios, which in turn stimulates consumer and spending across the country due to the psychological effects of rapid capital appreciation. Lower interest rates can have negative effects on the value of the local currency compared to other currencies. As foreign investors dump their local-denominated investments in favor of more profitable currencies, exchange rates can shift to the detriment of the local currency. The weakening of the local currency serves to increase the attractiveness of local goods to foreign purchasers, which has the effect of boosting exports and international sales. All of the factors mentioned above have the combined effect of increasing productive output, or GDP, and increasing employment across a wide range of industries. As individuals, businesses and foreign investors are encouraged to spend more due to increased access to capital, higher portfolio valuations and weaker currency values, businesses in nearly every sector experience an increase in sales, often requiring them to grow their operations and employ additional labor. However, there are some negative implications from this policy. Without a strong commitment to control inflation over the long run, the risk of higher inflation is one potential implication of experiencing real interest rates below the economy’s natural interest rate. Low interest rates provide a powerful incentive to spend rather than save. In the short term, this may not matter much, but over a longer period, low interest rates penalize savers and those who rely heavily on interest income. If short-term interest rates are low relatively to long-term rates, households and firms may overinvest in long-term assets, such as Treasury securities. If interest rates rise unexpectedly, the value of those assets will fall (bond prices and yields move in opposite directions), exposing investors to substantial losses. Finally, low short-term interest rates reduce the profitability of money market funds, which are key providers of short-term credit for many (large) firms, e. g. the commercial paper market. 3. Explain the Fed’s policy dilemma and try to rationalize why unemployment in the US is stubbornly high while inflation is low. Based on the theory of the Philip’s curve diagram we notice that there is an inverse relationship between inflation and unemployment. Stated simply the lower the unemployment in an economy the higher the rate of inflation. Philip’s Curve Inflation Unemployment The explanation of the inverse relationship between inflation and unemployment is based on two assumptions. The first has to do with the fact that as unemployment rises there is no room for workers and labor unions to demand an increase so a wage inflation that would increase the prices of the final products cannot occur. Secondly high unemployment is a reflection of the decline in economic output and indicates an economy’s slowdown. Therefore competition among firms in recession will lead the prices at lower levels. But this is not the case currently in the US since we observe high unemployment and low inflation. The FED is concerned about the unemployment rate and in an effort to stimulate the economy and improve the labor market conditions it started implementing the quantitative easing policy. So the FED purchased MBS, helped banks to rebuilt their balance sheets, contributed into maintaining price stability, preserved interest rates near zero for more than three years, and prevented the economy from slipping into greater recession. Despite all these efforts the situation in the labor market did not improve. Apparently the fact that unemployment is still very high depicts the limitations of the monetary policy. The low business confidence, policy uncertainty, and the government’s reluctance to act are beyond the FED’s capacity. What is more the infinite use of the quantitative easing may produce undesirable effects in the long run such as stagflation. The only optimal solution under these circumstances is the co ordination of the FED’s monetary policy with the government’s fiscal policy plan that could boost the society’s confidence. . Do you think that another round of quantitative easing (QE) by the Fed would help stimulate the US economy? Please explain. The FED declared that the use of QE will be aggressively continued until the economy is improved. The cash injections into the economy helped interest rates to remain at low levels. Consequently everyone wins from this decision in the short run; homeowners can borrow at historical low levels of inter est rate, corporations can also take advantage of this act and invest, consumption increased and also the banks increased their profits and the stocks record a growth. So as long as the QE is active in the short run everyone is a winner. But in the long run things become vague. First of all historical evidence shows that despite the fact that interest rates may be at levels near zero it remains uncertain whether this will be the incentive to boost the actual economy. Secondly the fact that consumers will have more money to spend but fewer goods to buy might lead to a hyper inflation. Furthermore by repeating the use of QE is very possible to lead to a liquidity trap, unless the economy finds ways to stimulate production. Last but not least the FED’s decision to inject cash into the economy by purchasing MBS is questionable; Mortgage backed securities entail the risk of defaulting once again as they did in the real estate crisis and that would cost the Americans a lot more money repeating the history that started back in the September of 2001. To sum up the use of QE is indeed very effective but only in the short run. Short periods of economic recession can be avoided by stimulating the economy temporarily through cash injections but to maintain growth on the real economy we need to improve labor market conditions, productivity, innovation and bolster the economy’s confidence. So a combination of fiscal and monetary policy is the only way to prevent an economy from collapsing, and also is this is the only way to avoid a possible systemic risk that will negatively affect all the institutions and individuals. . How is a loose Fed monetary policy in the US affecting fundamentals (such as inflation, asset and commodity prices) in other countries? What does that imply about global monetary policy? Since the dollar is the vehicle currency in the global economy almost every country is tied to its value and everyone is affected by the monetary decisions of the FED. By the QE, the supply of dollars is increased and consequently the dollar depreciates against foreign currencies. This means that America’s exports will increase and on the contrary the imports will decrease. So countries trading with the US fear about the capital inflows and the possible inflation on commodities. On the other hand the FED support that there can be no further inflation since the global economy is in recession. Moreover countries experiencing huge capital inflows resulting in inflation can implement fiscal policy, such as imposing taxes, in order to contain the effects of foreign capital inflows which push up local stock prices and the currency itself. Every country should focus on its own monetary policy adjusting it to the problems that may experience. For example the US chose to inject more money in the economy. The results of such a decision are low interest rates, more exports but always with the risk of inflation. On the other hand a country experiencing high inflation might limit the money supply, increasing the interest rates with the risk of experiencing a decline in exports.

Individualism and Paradox in the Works of D. H. Lawrence :: Biography Biographies Essays

Individualism and Paradox in the Works of D. H. Lawrence      Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   When you read something by D. H. Lawrence, you often end up wondering the same thing: does he hate people? Lawrence has a profound interest in us human beings, but it's the fascination of a child picking at a scab that drives him, rather than a kind of scientific or spiritual quest for some mythical "social truth." Some of Lawrence's works--"Insouciance," for example--question mankind's tendencies outright: what good is served by a world of "white-haired ladies" wasting time "caring" and sounding intelligent and cultured and talking about pretentious, bourgeois issues?(2)    But this work is blatant in its negative descriptions of people and their behavior in society. At one point in "Insouciance," the narrator--Lawrence--comes right out and pontificates for several paragraphs on the defects of "modern" society. But for me, it is the more subtle pieces that hold greatest power. When Lawrence hints, insinuates, or implies his views, he is, in a way, letting us discover the kernel of truth, however upsetting or controversial. This process, utilized in "Mercury," is of far greater interest than the almost direct missive from Lawrence used in "Insouciance," that flatly states his view of what "living" really is. For not only must we discover the meaning; we must also decide whether our interpretation is really Lawrence's intent--perhaps we have confused some inadvertent seepage of Lawrence's personnel venom with his intended meaning. It is a risk we will have to take as we analyze works such as "Mercury". Instead of condemning society in "Mercury," Lawrence actually tries to leave it, ascending to "the top of the Merkur," where he has a new vantage point on the world. He develops some of the same ideas as in "Insouciance," but at the end of the work, Lawrence redeems society, or at least apologizes for it, adding new fire to our question. By the end we cannot, with certainty, tell whether Lawrence hates people or not--and this reflects a sort of internal struggle for Lawrence.    One could lessen the scope and dilute the importance of this topic by suggesting that the "Sunday people" Lawrence criticizes are not humanity as a whole but rather a specific group--perhaps the vacationing, upper-middle class Schlegels, perhaps the aspiring, pseudo-intellectual Leonard Basts of the lower middle class, who think culture lies in a misunderstood walk through the woods.

Seeing the situations that over rule an administration

Seeing the situations that over rule an administration everyday makes an administrator of the school wonder with regards which part of education does the institution still needs to work with besides the aspect of student achievement. It could not be denied that the institution has already reached its peak aim of producing student achievers who are both academically and athletically serious about their schooling. However, besides just the idea of achieving, the proposal that follows tries to embark on the idea of making certain changes with regards the morality of the students as this is one of the most neglected areas of importance in the institution. PRESENTING ALTERNATIVE ASSESSMENT MODELS IN A SCHOOL ALREADY CITED FOR HIGH STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT Section 1: Introduction 1. 1 Background of the Study The schools and other educational institutions today are facing large problems regarding the issue on the students’ lack of self discipline resulting to under-achievements of the stud ents in the school as well as violence within the school premises. How close are these two issues related to each other? Mostly, the age-stage of which the student enters when he attends secondary school is ranged as the puberty stage of an individual’s growth. According to psychologists, this particular stage of growth introduces an individual to several major decisions that he has to face along the way towards his maturity. Hence, confusion of priorities and aggravation of depression through the environment occurs (Coon, 1999, 88).As reports could attest to this fact, it is not that hard to understand that there is an essential need of restructuring the procedures of the school when it comes to disciplining students who are attending secondary education. This is the reason why the researcher of this paper opted to discuss the issue mentioned. The timeliness of the research would indeed help in solving the problems at present especially with regards the issues of education, d iscipline and student achievements. 1. 2 Significance of the ProblemThe problem as mentioned earlier directly affects the achievements of the students in their schools. This means that because of the lack of discipline, the students of the secondary school level face the challenges of being misaligned when it comes to their focus and at some point become highly attracted to drugs and violence. This is the fact when it comes to school procedures. The actual reports that pertain to the said issue are indeed much disturbing and further more alarming to the institutional boards. As most of the schools affected by this dilemma are public educational institutions at [79%] whilst Private schools are affected by at least [45%], it is indeed necessary to identify the reasons behind the incidents that lead to students’ lesser interest in school and a higher rate of attraction towards drugs and violence. Through the proceedings of this particular research, it is expected that the reasons behind the ongoing issue in schools would be further regulated and controlled by institutional administrations through the use of psychological and psychosocial motivation.1. 3 Research Questions To be bale to attend to the most important issues related to this particular problem, the researcher decided to use the following questions as guidelines for the completion of this particular study: †¢Ã‚  Ã‚     What are the primary sources of the discipline of the students? Do those sources pertain to the personal or the social connection of the students to the society? †¢Ã‚  Ã‚     How are students reacting to the discipline that they learn from their homes and from their environment? What are the elements that are so far affecting the vision of the students towards their achievements in school as well as towards their future? †¢Ã‚  Ã‚     How are drugs and violence related to the effects of lack of discipline among students? These particular questions shall serve as the primary foundation of the study. These questions shall be the settling ground of the researcher in finding the right sources for the completion of this paper as well as deciding on the right method to be used to collect actual data for the validation of this study. 1. 4 Purpose of the StudyTo add up to the stress that this study places on the topic to be discussed in this paper, the following presentation of the purposes would primarily support the existing statements of the problem to assist in the validation of the facts that are to be presented. The purposes of this study are: †¢Ã‚  Ã‚     TO assist the ongoing researches on school students’ discipline issues and help the institutions solve the impending results of the said problems. †¢Ã‚  Ã‚     To make assessments on how the issues could be investigated through the use of psychological assessments and actual-report-based evaluations of the situation.†¢Ã‚  Ã‚      To strengthen the procedures of s tudent motivation that is already currently used in schools in the society today. The utilization of these purposes within the completion of this study certainly helps in aligning the focus of the researcher. Hence, by doing so, the researcher expects that the focus would be on the cycle of events that involve The source of discipline, the results of the influential elements of the environment to the discipline of the students and the future of the students afterwards. Section 2: Literature Review 2. 1 What Psychology Says and how Anthropology RelatesBoth psychology and anthropology concentrate on the behavioral study of humans. Through the use of the said studies, the reasons behind the occurring behaviors of students in secondary school could be well identified. With regards the issue on discipline and how it affects the students, Psychologists claim that the situation is much controlled by the upbringing of the students. The original discipline that they receive from their homes are supposed to be the basis of why they act the way they do when they are already mingling with their peers or with the society as it is.(Coon, 1999, 89) Moreover, girls of the same age are differently reacting to the discipline that they receive from their homes compared to that of the boys. Anthropological studies attest to the claims of psychology as the said field of human understanding particularly points out the instance by which the discipline received by students from their homes are directly affected by the elements of the environment when they already begin to mingle with their peers or the society. As mentioned earlier, the effects vary.To young girls, the discipline that they receive from their homes are more likely more evident in their system of dealing with others as young girls are expected to be more emotionally and personally attached to the their families compare to that of the boys who are at some point more affected by the elements of change that they encounter in dealing with other people especially with their peers (Coon, 1999, 90). Knowing the sources of the discipline, it is essential to evaluate the claims of both psychology and anthropology through the use of the actual reports that are further presented for better understanding of the readers.

Summary The story took place in Costa Rica where accidents keeps on occurring day after day caused by unknown animals. News have gone around and reached the United States drawing curiosity in US doctors and scientist. There is something unusual happening in this island called Isla Nublar. Researchers and doctors began to question, others have given their thoughts. Some explained its dinosaurs but others think that its impossible because they were extinct billions of years ago. But it is starting to happen again, in this island in Costa Rica. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "About Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton" essay for you Create order At the end of the book, some people already knew what was on that island but a lot still didnt. The government didnt want the news to spread around so they made those people who knew stay in their country for awhile so they can study about what those things are before word goes around. But something was happening, there might be more animals out in the jungle and they dont know what it will do. The animals want are migrating and they dont know what might happen next. Theme I think the theme of this book is about survival. Humans have always had to fight for survival against nature. Technology has a big role in helping us figure out how humans can survive when that time comes. Nature is unpredictable and thats the biggest challenge we have to face. We have tried predicting everything but changes happens. We think we can control the outcome when in reality, we cant. We have to adjust in whats happening around us and accept the fact that we cant save the whole planet. We dont have that power against nature. Character Analysis Dr. Bobbie Carter – a doctor in Costa Rica who helps people who are injured or sick. Bobbie was thinking about the boy hands. They had been covered with cuts and bruises, in the characteristic pattern of defense wounds. She was quite sure he had not died in a construction accident; he had been attacked and he had held up his hands against his attacker. Where is this island theyve come from? Alice Levin she saw Tinas drawing of the lizard and explained that it was a dinosaur. She is a technician. No, Alice Levine said, shaking her head. Look at it. Its very clear. Big head, long neck, stands on its hind legs, thick tails. Its a dinosaur. Powerful Quotes Lets be clear. The planet is not in jeopardy. We are in jeopardy. We havent got the power to destroy the planet- or to save it. But we might have the power to save ourselves. I thought this quote was powerful because it explained the reality of nature and humanity. We are the destruction and we are creating the destruction and now its coming back to us. Humans need nature to survive, but nature doesnt need us. So if we keep on destroying it, were only hurting ourselves. The shorthand is the butterfly effect. A butterfly flaps its wings in Pecking and weather in New York is different. I picked this quote because they were talking about the butterfly effect. Its interesting to think about how one thing affects whats going to happen next. Theres so many what ifs and all these questions about possibilities of what couldve happened, all these questions unanswered about nature. Ending I thought the ending was interesting because they ended it in away where the dinosaurs didnt go extinct and they didnt decide to capture them. The ending is just the beginning of this story. People still doesnt know whats going on and what those animals are.
